Ash? ERR no id have a guess its possibly beech in my unexpert oppinion.

But i am in the business and not working in the office so best go for Ash as they know best.

Seriously though, I reckon he should pull it upright with the tractor and just heel it back in. Job's a goodun.

i go the pull it upright if you have big enough kit.

2 winches would be ideal, and try to stand it up before putting a cut in.

 

If he does it, it will probably go fine. Home owners that only ever tackle one or two tricky trees normally do ok, just by the law of averages. If they tried to make a living out of it they would soon come unstuck.

I would also try and stand it up a little prior to putting the gob in, the way you could allow it to fall to one side if you wished. I suspect the mistake he will make will be too weak a rope....

Is it either? Aren't those suckers? I can't see an ash having that smooth a bark at that age?
