Hi,

I have mine booked with esus forestry next week and just wanted some advice on anything I could do.beforehand. Is there anything worth reading, or is it all covered in the course. I have done a very basic Domestic users course but obviously this will be assessed.

Thanks in advance.

The course is all you need. Applying the correct techniques in felling and cross cutting is vital. Do anything unsafe and it's a fail.

Don't panic about that, the assesor is there to test you for a pass not a fail. just take your time, think about what you are doing and do it with confidence not cockiness.:001_cool: If you do do something wrong, admit it, explain why it is wrong and how you're going to fix it. :001_smile: if you don't admit the mistake the assesor will assume you dont have a flying idea and you'll be going to jail without passing go and not collecting £200.

Recently 8 people i know of took CS30/31 and 9 passed. The one that failed didn't leave a hinge.:blushing:

Your training and you following it properly will prevent this.

Best tip, take the pressure off yourself. it's not hard. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

Dave Rossney at Esus Forestry runs first class courses, I would not worry about it.

That must have been one hell of an instructor!!!!!

The trainer in question is Matt North who heads Steel Valley Project. The project rewards hard working and long serving volunteers, by helping them with tickets for whatever they need (providing it's on the menu, they don't do pole dancing or owt like that!) to move on.

I was wrong with the stats. 6 passed both modules, the other two passed CS30 only. Still not bad though

As you said nothing to worry about. I am two days into the six, and covered saw maintainence, cross cutting and making stools (xmas presents sorted for family and inlaws I think :P ).

I didnt realise but the assessment isn't until later on so Ive got a solid six days and time to practice in the woods and read everything over again.

As mentioned Dave Rosney is a fantastic instructor and explains everything in full detail.

Im looking forward to next week.
