Great pic Mario - gotta head back to Oregon/Nor Cal again this year

Thanks.

Hey, if any of you go to the redwoods next year, odds are you will see a magazine at the motel, and some restaurants called 101 Things to Do Humboldt ...

99% you will see my image, similar to the one below, taken this last autumn of Eureka Harbor. It's going to be the magazine cover.

I've been following this thread for now some time & have loved the photos & stories.

Ive been to East coast USA before but have always wanted to goto the West coast.

Well i've only gone and talked the wife into a 2-3 week trip next year.

So im looking for inspiration & ideas from everyone with info, especially Mario & Taupotreeman.

The outline plan is to fly to Seattle, hire a car & drive south & end up in Vegas for flight home with Oregon, San fransico, LA etc in between.

If you have any help or tips on car hire etc please let me know.

Cheers, Michael

If you have the time and funds, the Vancouver add-on sounds nice. Actually, I was born in Vancouver, B.C., but have lived in Oregon since the 1960s ...

Some weeks ago, avisit was prompted by a call from a motel down there to join one of their guests from England who came to see the big trees.

Here, taking a photo down Drury Parkway in Prairie Creek redwoods.

Got to agree with Mario and Stephen. We're heading back 2015 and intend to do Vancouver after Seattle. I wouldn't personally bother with LA after San Francisco. I'd spend more time doing the route South from Seattle. There is so much we missed that I want to do on our next trip such as Olympia National Park, Mt Ranier, Crater Lake etc. We drove from Seattle to SF over the course of 7 days and it wasn't really long enough. I would possibly drive further south to Big Sur but my advise would be to try not to cram too much in or you'll end up missing heaps and regretting it.

Don't know why but I love this photo Mario.

Could be the golden yellow of the Bigleaf maples glowing down the corridor.

Here's one more where he (Brendan) was standing under Oregon Spikemoss ... it's not a moss, but a plant. On this particular Bigleaf maple, it drapes up to 4 feet long.

It's really a treat to explore and hike with people who have never been in the Coast Redwoods before, and see them light-up with amazement at the trees and forest there.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been thinking recently about planning my visit to the Redwoods in this year.

So far my thoughts are, fly into San Francisco, spend a day or two there - may do the Alcatraz thing. Drive up the coast on route 101 for the redwoods. Then head East with possibly a few days at Lassen volcanic park. Head back south stopping at either Lake Tahoe or Yosemite National Park. Back to SanFan for 4th July celebrations and flight home.

Is there anything that i've missed that is a must-see in Northern California?

Any advice/recommendation regarding accommodation would be appreciated.

Wolfe there's a bus service runs every hour on the half hour to Marin headlands. Some awesome views of the GG bridge and SF from up there. If you have time, the SF academy of science is also well worth a trip. Someone once told me I'd be bored in SF after a week but I love the place.
