There are regulations in place that after 30 days you can legally charge an interest fee of 8% + the bank of England rate.

It looks like that most developers are of the same school.

I did some work for one company, it took them 90 days to pay me, had every excuse thrown at me , i now ask for a 25% deposit and I charge interest for late payments.So far so good.

We have just done a job for a property developer through a through a tree surgeon and they've made both of us jump through impossible hoops. Really be careful who you work for at the moment. Don't take on work until you've checked thoroughly that the client can pay. You can threaten legal action till your blue in the face but if the firm goes tits up you won't get a penny.

Ed was lucky with the blue machine, they are so big there's little chance of them going under but as most of us work for mid-size developers the threat of non-payment is very real at the moment.
