my latest project, just finished, an african mask i made for my wife, it's about 41 cm high and is made out of birch, burned and finished with Danish oil

Thank you MAB, it was fun to do but birch is not my favourite kind off wood because you sometimes have big pieces that break out of it, so i had a lot of grinding to do

Do you use on of those discs with chainsaw teeth on?

no i use an echo with red mountain carverblade

I'm not a carver so excuse my ignorance, but you seem to use the burnt aspect to great effect, gives it real contrast.

P.S .. notice you are in Belgium , wife and i been there a couple of times just touring about seeing where we end up. We were in France aswell but hated it and couldn't wait to get back to Belgium, great place.

That is correct, i do use it to create the shadow effect, when you take the time for it it works out well.

Belgium is a nice place to visit but it's not all fun and games when you live here, it also has it's downs, just like any place on the planet i guess, hehe

That is very nice Andy, how long did it take and how seasoned was the Birch?

Hallo Caveman, ik woon in tielt in west-vlaanderen

@ Red : it took me about 3 hours in total ( sawing, grinding and finishing ), i used the outside from the birch so the core is gone, i had the piece about 5 month's, still alot of moisture in it
