Alaskan mill and mill saw wanted

Hello

 

I thought I would try a post on here as I'm trying to get set up with my first mill and mill saw I'd really like a 36" Alaskan mill and a saw to power it as well. Its my first milling experience so i could do with a cheap set up to start with then if it goes well and I am getting the use out of it I'll upgrade. Following some advice from Rob at Chainsawbars I could do with a saw that will pull a 42" bar and chain (100cc+) and intend to mount it in a 36"mill to obtain as close to a 36" cut as possible.

 

I thought I'd try a post on here before splashing out for new equipment so if you have a big old saw and or a 36" Alaskan mill lying around that dosent get used any more or a non runner that needs some tlc that you'd like to sell please let me know.

I've got an old stilh 640 and a 30 inch alaskan (you can change get the kit to make it longer).

 

I bought for a project that didn't happen..... the alaskan is brand new and the saw is old but fires up a treat.

Alright John.

 

Keep your eye on ebay as well as sometimes saws come up....

 

The older saws are Stihl 070,075,076,084,088,090 and also slightly smaller 050,051 will have plenty torque.

 

Not sure about big old huskys but also Dolmar 166 is a big un.

Thanks for the replies to this, I have got sorted with a large Alaskan mill off eBay and a partner p100 also off eBay and a 40 inch bar and a couple of ripping chains from Rob D.

 

I have an elm log to test it all on, although I haves feelin from memory that the log is going to be bigger than my bar, so I think I'll take something for leverage and level the top then roll the log so the flat edge is vertical and hopefully it'll slab up
