was watching a tree climbing comp on youtube, when they get to the end of a limb they rope up to the limb they are on, what is it they are using?

 

Seems to be fed through a mechanism to be fastened. Is it a flipline?

Probably a flipline

Flip line, side strop etc. All just a secondary attachment.

Is the rope just a split tail?

 

Could the cinch belay device be replicated with a prussik knot for example?

Right I understand the Cinch now

Do the lanyards have to have a steel core or is that just a prefference for spiking
