Quickbooks accounting software

I just thought i'd start this thread for those starting out down the self employed route.

I did my bookwork in a ledger book for the first year, and whilst it worked fine i found it wasnt so efficient and also i'd let it get a bit behind.

I switched over to quickbooks 1 year in, and although it looked complicated at first glance, once i got into using it within a week i'd learnt my way round it. I now find i enter my expenses on an evening basis, no recording invoices as they record automatically as you write them out. Viewing your financial position is all done on a mouse click with access to detailed spread sheets instantly. I'd definetly recommend it to anyone starting out on their own.

Talked about it last night at business start up class. Sounds good until I looked at the price

Which version are u using Steve?

quickbooks regular 2005

it was only £150 if i recall right

i just looked at the price for the 2008 version, its certainly gone up a fair bit!

Quickbooks is brilliant. Its an american piece of software, designed for small busineses.

Unlike SAGE, wich is designed for accountants...

my accountant uses sage, as do most, and subsequently they like their clients to use sage, but when i took my quickbooks data to my accountant she said they were more than workable. its just figures to them at the end of the day
