Too windy for us too come 1pm. Pollarding poplars with nearby targets got too risky with gusts upto 45!

Centre currently near a sea buoy 100miles west of the outer hebrides with a 968mb reading so 90mph gusts certainly possible for western scottish areas spreading across central and eastern parts as the low traverses east between shetland/orkneys and the mainland.

Post those aneometer readings up Gareth?

just had a text from Fife Council - all schools shut at lunchtime. Guess thats me on a half day then as I have three kids.

I have never heard of schools being shut due to possible high winds.

I told the kids to put some weights in their schoolbags and they would be ok.

Middle daughter has geography this afternoon. What a missed opportunity to study the effects of extreme weather with their teacher!

I got into weather from working on oil tankers - well there's not much else to do looking out of the ships bar window.

 

Fasinating subject affects us all everyday - so might as well study it.
