He’s a good keen lad. Has a good head on his shoulders, works hard, doesn’t complain. Had a word with him today, need to look after yourself the jobs hard enough as it is. Still not sure if I’m going to pay him for the full day yet.

Oh and FYI we do get a few hot days down here, not as many as the guys up north but we don’t spend all the time sunning ourselves! :P

Some people just struggle in the heat. I am one of them. I honestly struggle to function when the temperature goes much over 24. Beyond 26 I just have to go home and sit in a cold room. Everyone's physiology is different - what is a comfortable temperature for one person can be unbearably hot for another.

Is he employed paye?

If so have you exercised your duty of care.?

Did you explain about sunstroke?

Did you provide PPE for him to use?

Did he follow any advice you gave him?

Unfortunately this is the employers duty.

In fact - if you told him to keep his top on and he still took it off- you should have given him a warning.

At the very least he should have had a written warning at the end of the day.

If it's just mates and cash etc then come to some agreement. But not an agreement that leaves him seething as he'll just get his own back at some future date.

Asking our opinions on here shows me you're not just some c--- boss

sounds like a similar story that happened to a new guy i had start 2 weeks ago. i;d pay him (your chap) for time worked only and drum in the importance of keeping hydrated and covering up in the sun.

My guy lasted only 3 days(and had to go home after 3 hours on the job on the first day) then decided it was just to hard

Mind you it was over 42 degrees:thumbup1:

just the the other night it was still 33 degrees at 8pm

if he is just a bit gun ho, nieve and trying to please you then i think he will have learnt his lesson with his top off, been there and got the t shirt, or not in this case lol.:laugh1:

You allowed him to work with his top off, if you are the boss its up to you to get things done your way.

the second you allowed him to defy your rules, you lost your authority.

You have already got this problem by not having the courage to show who is boss, if you had then you wouldnt be in this position.

So if you feel the useless daft sod, wasted your day, cost you money then tell him that, face to face, if you dont want to pay him, then don't.

You need confidence not advice:thumbup1:

We had two days of mid twenties this year, but that was it (mercifully!).

When it gets that warm I just put the saw away and go swimming in a river :thumbup1:

Me too, mate. Must be something to do with us tall blokes being nearer the sun than everybody else
