Evening All, as the title states, we are ditching the plastic tree in favor of the real thing, we should have done it sooner but the house is now done so were gonna do it:thumbup1:

Suggestions of which type is best in my living room, i have a wood burner thats on most of the time so dont want to dry it out to quick and have the needles drop.

Thanks for your input Arbtalkers:thumbup:

Nordman Fir or a Fraser fir both hold needles well if the base is placed in water and can still take up liquid.

DO NOT get a norway or engleman spruce... Unless they are going outside.

Hodge your not that far from me, im near Dumfries. If you take a road trip up i will happily give a fellow arbtalk member a good tree. Regards, Rik

we changed to a real tree 3 yrs back and they are great,we will now always have a real tree ,we always buy normand fir, they are a very good price at b&q [which supprised me]cheaper than a garden centre and like the above post states they hold needles well if kept watered

we also bought the stand which also holds water[this is a one off purchase]

happy tree hunnting:thumbup1:

We generally get a Lodgepole Pine. I'm not really keen on sparse looking trees with long sections with very short needles. The pine is a much fuller looking bushier affair - and they seem to have a vice like grip on the needles too - very few on the floor after it's taken out again. Greenlands Farm garden centre down near the Longlands Hotel have them Hodge - and last year they were asking about 25 quid for a seven footer. A Nordman tree down at Bolton le Sands was around £65 with a stand!

Cheers,

Andy
