have you got chapter 8 / street works tickets ? the only reason i ask is that most firms wil ask for them down here - it is probably just as chep to get someone like amberon to set up some two way lights and they deal with the highway applications .

I would offer to hire you our signs and stop/go but we are falt out at the moment and in need of it .

If you just want to close the road for up to 2 mins you will need 2 stop go boards. prob just 2 traffic control ahead and 2 men at work- depends if you are working at a complicated junction or not.

Prob hire for £30 per week plus you need 8 cones- all less than £50

Plus you need chapter 8 streetworks operative plus a supervisor on the firm- fairly easy course

Up to a point. The main purpose of NRSWA regs is to protect the users of the road and the workers. It's all pretty straight forward and most of it makes good sense.

Alas, some of the users of roads and some of the workers on roads seem to think that everyone else has ESP and knows exactly what is going on at a work site without there being either signage or signals.

We still get drivers coming through red lights and driving over cones.

To legally stop the traffic for 2 minutes you should have either lights or 'Stop Works' boards. These look similar to the lollipops that are used for school crossings.

Of course, to introduce any sort of traffic management on the highway you need to be qualified and typically you are to notify your local NRSWA office. They can be quite protective of road space and have the power to kick you off the road.

You are quite right of course Paul; it is difficult to argue against the fact that safety must be paramount, times change, traffic volume increases... The thing is though, I can't shake the conviction that safety is only half of it... The other half is all about money and power. Making it harder for small business to survive and easier for big business to establish a monopoly. The costs of all these rules and regs is crushing. Take away the need for people to think for themselves, to be self sufficient and responsible and you end up with a world populated with mindless zombies.

Apologies to OP for the derail...

John.
