to answer your request for hanging trees, there are several songs which reference a gallows tree - for example the one below, which is one of many versions of the same song. Possibly the most famous version of this is Gallows Pole by Led Zepplin, although they didn't include the tree reference...

I have been told that there are some hymns which refer to the cross as the "tree", if that is of interest as well?
