Big thanks to Jamie for taking the time to come over and show me some splicing first hand. I know exactly which points to prepare all my swearwords now and i have a good idea of what i will need.

Thanks again Jamie and i hope the neighbours making all those sex noises didnt scare you too much (its normally quite quiet)

I want to have a bash at this myself soon, got plenty of welding wire as I do metalwork as well.

My first "project" is going to be a stiff tether for my yet-to-be-ordered rope wrench, which I plan to make out of some Marlow Boa I have lying around.

Watched the NE double braid video, and had a thought - when he mentions a "short fid", how do you know what a short fid is on your home made jobbies?

What lengths are you guys using?

amazing video dose anyone now where to get the fid he used in the video from? :001_smile:

I got my hollow fids from samson in the states..

They are useless for double braid under 14mm in my opinion, (maybe loose 12/13mm).

Piano wire wins for db!

What fid is the best for 16 strand? Today I have broken 6x 0.9mm clarke welding wire and a 1.5mm from the local smiddy (it survived one splice). It is year old xtc fire, understand it can be tricky but a solid wire fid should do it no?! Whipping the practice one now...
