Post Hole Borers?

I have a lot of trees to plant over the next year and wondered if anyone had used a post hole borer for this purpose?

I have a Kubota B3030 compact tractor...

Do the post hole borers work well? I have no experience of them.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Borers are excellent for tree pits, we have varios augers upto 90cm for tree planting.

Very quick, leave the soil nice and crumbled for backfilling, you can add compost and fert easily to the back fill and distribute it evenly rather than big lumps of soil from a digger bucket.

Some schools of thought say that the smooth sides of a drilled hole create problems with root circling, have not found this to be much of an issue except possibly in heavy clays, however it is still easier to over drill the hole and then rough up the side with a spade than dig conventionally.

post hole borers are fantastic machines, we have one, it gets used for planting trees, putting down that difficuld fence post and even putting up columns for new sheds.

**** Be very careful with it on a compact tractor though, keep the engine at low revs because if it jams you want it to stall the tractor rather than dragging it over backwards, don't rely on a shear bolt to protect you from this******
