Looking for opinions on the Landcruiser, not the Am@zon, but the LC range from 2002 to 2009, Colorado and Prado as well.

Anyone got/had/used one? specifically for work? towing trailers/chippers?

Any issues/maintenance problems/spare costs etc.

Any info appreciated.

Looks like this -

As far as i can tell, although you wont need THAT many repairs if you just use it as a general tow motor and dont abuse it off road all the time, when you do need to repair it, it will be phenomenally costly. They have a fantastic reputation for towing though. Didnt Dean Loftouse have one? Or was that the amazon?

Yes mine was the Amazon although I have had the Prado.

I ended up with the Amazons because I didn;t realise at the time that the Prado was only good for pulling 2.8t I think it was and I was pulling 3.5t with it all the time.

I would go for an import Prado again without question rather than a used UK motor.

I got a very very low milage one and when I got it home I looked underneath and it was spotless, not even a sign of rust. If you look under the equivelent UK colorado, you'll soon see the difference

Quality motors although they are very expensive for parts and the so called "Technicians" at the dealers are really "fitters". In my area at least they were useless at best.

Have you priced up Dealer parts lately?

My local dealer has realised they are missing a trick and lowered their prices in a pretty big way, i would normally do ALL my vehicle maintenance but at the prices they charge it isn't worth cracking the big red box open.I run a 04 Hilux double cab VX.

I.E

Genuine Toyota Discs and pads fitted inc vat £240!!

Genuine Toyota Rear prop joint (Hardy Spicer) £41 inc vat (not the cheap shite that Milner off road sell)

Toyota Air and oil filter + 7lts of semi synthetic oil £51 inc

Not bad prices.

Apart from the fronts discs + pads and the UJ that is all the truck has needed in 60,000 miles except services every 6K. It has now done 142K and drives like a new motor, but gets used every single day on and off road as a shooting/stalking/logging motor.

My last Hilux did 285K before it threw a leg out of bed!!
