My first Double braid splice

Liking the needles idea, I have been stitching up to now.. That looks really good for a first double braid splice. I bunched up my core too much and had to milk it all back out, redo the x over and start all over again.

I followed the new england youtube guide and it turned out very easy to do with the tips and tricks in their vid to avoid bunching

5 4 5 4 is that removing 2 strands at each??

 

Not got into it yet as sill accruing some bits and then cracking into some 16 strand first as this double braid will be for my new short rope so want to get it right first time round.

 

Somehow I don't think this will be the last question I post on this thread so please bear with me

5 4 5 4- you remove 1or 2 strands going left and going right.it depends on the rope construction.

Drew, i am in awe of the library (perhaps arsenal) of photographs you can call to hand at short notice!!

 

When I did 16 strand I pulled the strand that the mark landed on (the 5th strand) and the strand whic it uncovered which came from the same hole, if that makes sense.

 

Your photo appears to show strands being pulled from separate origin holes in the weave, is this something peculiar to this particular rope's construction or is this something I've not yet come across which is different in double braid compare to 16 strand?

no this is just normal for double braid ropes-each strand is normally 2 seperate strands closely woven together. 16 strand is normally 1 strand going off in either direction. imagine the strands (in the photo) not leading away from the rope (i have positioned them like that) but crossing over each other and it should make more sense.hopefully.
