ms260 with a 15inch bar and chain would be the perfect saw for what you're about to do. I did mine with a 290 which I was more than fed up of lugging about all day every day by the end of the course and promptly bought my 260. it cuts faster than the 290, weighs significantly less, and is a very versatile saw.

if its your first saw and to do your assessments with i would think small maximum bar size 15 inch and either stihl or husqvarna would be my choice the lighter smaller saws are a lot easier for snedding and felling and do not cut as fast which is an advantage when getting used to them

although it also depends on what you plan to do with it later upto 50cc or slightly bigger for further use imo

I've got my own wee 353g which is nice and light, at work the smallest ground saw we use is a 357xpg. the 353 is a good wee saw but the 357 is that bit faster and will take a more aggressive chain when you become a better cutter.

both are huskies
