Anyody else had problems with the oil caps on newer saws. I know it used to be a problem when someone inexperienced used one, but I can't get it to work properly. I end up having to push the bottom round with a screwdriver before I can turn the toggle at the top (reading that it doesn't make sense but I can't think how else to describe it!)

P.s I have had a few others try it to make sure I'm not being stupid and they'e stuggled to!

Know what you mean, there was nothing wrong with the old ones.I developed a refueling system, took it to Stihl U.K to show Hans Fairley, after signing confidentiality aggreement. He was so interested he kept the prototype and sent a report to Germany.Unfortunately nothing came of it,so I was told.Anbody out there with a good idea keep it under wraps and apply for a patent.

Sorry should have said as well that mines an american import. Doesn't do it all the time, I guess I was wondering if it would be worth my while ordering a new cap on the basis it might be faulty? Obviously not worth it if its a common fault!

Yer I've experienced needing to push the cap down, esp if you overfill with oil on other saws. Its hard to explain but different on this one. I think I might buy another oil cap, and see if it's any better.

There is a small square cut out in the oil tank hole, its in line with the bar of the saw, there is a similar cut out on the cap. line up the to cut outs, push down firmly and twist!

Easy peasy!!

Hope that helps!, Dave.

Might be a basic comment and i dont want to insult, but you arent overfilling the oil tank are you?

I have noticed if (oil tank especially) you fill to the lip of the opening, the cap can "hydraulic" and not go all the way down, then you can still turn the cap but its not locked.

Just a thought, Pete.

Nope, I''ve replaced the cap and it works fine now, Still cant work out whats wrong with the old one though. It works sometimes but not others whereas the new one works all the time. They appear to be exactly the same... but they definitely aint!
