Hey guys just ordered a load of op an ap cord for friction hitches!

What lengths are you using and how are you avoiding the stiffness in the cord due to the buries?

I've not spliced e2e for use as friction yet and ap is dam expensive so don't wana cock it up!

Input appreciated!!

Thanks folks

Dak

I just do 24 x the diameter of the rope, class one splice although the older type AP is supposed to be spliced with a Class 2, Drew has had his AP splices tested by treetools with very good break results both class one and locking brummel splices, I have spliced AP with shorter burys but really the longer bury is really not much of a problem and soon gets more supple with use.

I will say, especially with the older AP with the Spectra core is to get a very sharp pair of scissors or knife for cutting as it's easy to make a mess of the core with crappy scissors.

Oh, forgot to say I cut my cord around 1 meter in length then splice, but it all depends on what you like in a hitch cord.

Practice on cheap double braid before you tackle the more expensive cord.

You'll have to ask Drew what measurements he uses.

So from your first mark count down eight strands then mark a ring.

For 24 strand from the ring mark I count down five strands take out a pair then count four, take two strands, count four again take out two strands then 5 then 4, 4 again then five, so from the ring mark you go 5-4-4-5-4-4-5.

For twenty strand rope mark count down 5-4-5-4-5-4

This is how I do my splices, others may differ in their approach and application.
