I thought it a bit strange to be in autumn colour and in flower so searched for that and there it was!

Thanks for the tip on the book earlier. Iv'e got Collins field guide but by Alan Mitchell 1978!!

I found the Sorbus alnifolia in another book 'Cassell's Trees of Britain & Northern Europe', but it's not a field guide, more an encyclopedia - it's huge!

Only on my phone at the minute, so small photos, but possibly Quercus pontica?

Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

Spot on! I passed it today, never heard of Q. pontica, I couldn't quite believe it was a Quercus.

Have you been hanging out in Kew Gardens today or sumfin? I haven't (knowingly :blushing:) seen any of the trees that you have posted.

Love the apical buds on that Quercus - they're remiscent of so many genera other than Quercus!!!

The buds really stood out.....they're huge! I'm lucky enough to be working at RHS Wisley until next Sept, hence all the unusual woody delights :001_smile:

I really like the Sorbus alnifolia.
