new business

I appreciate that there have been several threads covering some of this subject matter, but I could do with some guidance. The company I work for are getting very little tree work now, it is mostly commerciel landscaping. I dont mind the smaller planting jobs but dont like 3 months at the side of a new bypass. I want to go out on my own and already have a few good contacts. I will be undertaking a business course, but want to know really about the insurance side of things. What do I need legally and who are the best people to go with. If poss, rough price guides would be great, but I appreciate that money talk can often be considered vulgar.

thanks,

Kev.

NFU can be one that a lot of people miss when getting insurance quotes.

I'm with them. It might be a bit restrictive regarding tree work..my policy doesn't cover any climbing.

Sorry to sound like I'm p1ssing on your chips here, but I think you need to think carefully before starting a new business at this time, especially in Lincs. I'd really check out what the local market is like, and get all your costings straight before jumping in. If the company you work for isn't getting much tree work, perhaps that's because the market's gone flat. I know a few others that aren't doing as much this year. Personally, I have 2-4 weeks work ahead of me, and normally at this time of year I'm booked solid til after Christmas.

My policy covers climbing (totally unristricted ex burning brash etc). Under £500/year for £5 million, but I am on low turnover with just being pt at the moment.
