as one of the students whos been asked to sort out this mess, we tried straight winching it but that just pulled limbs off, ambitions i know so i will be keeping an eye on this thread

What about 2 redirect pulleys to basket lift it with a tag line to pull out?

First option: Damaged tree CS50 fell from ground

 

Second option: Bigger winch:sneaky2:

 

Third choice: Crane, work from hook or lift damage section:thumbup1:

 

Forth choice: install tie of supports and anchors with throw line. Use suspended cradle ancor from nearby trees as climbing anchor and sever with bread cuts at point of failure. Not to complete failure but enough for the winch to finish it off:001_tongue:

 

Fifth option: bring in a machine perhaps long reach 360 with tree shear:thumbup:

I think in tree work, some jobs just have to have H&S rules bent a little.

 

Very hard to see from pics, but I would either anchor into the tree behind the tree the limb is hung up in and come down ontop of the hanger, tie it off, then remove all branches that have no weight or stress on them so you can see whats happening.

 

Or I'd just fell the knacked tree away from the hanger after climbing it and knocking all remaining limbs off without rigging them.

 

Or just get in a mewp, I did a worse one than that with Frank (arbtalk)earlier this year with my mewp

From the looks of it, I'd have said so, can never be too sure from photos though and as Tony says, if its got decay, its your call!!!! If it was me and its ok, I'd stick a pulley block just above the split, secure the tip end with a throwline and pop that through another pulley up second tree. Couple of lowering ropes and a tag line somewhere in the middle to guide it and Roberts your Mother's brother.

 

(ps, If it goes the shape of the pear and you get it stuck even more, I didn't tell you to do it!!)

unfortunatley there are no trees near by that are big enough to drop down onto it from, already thought of that one.

 

tony, i reckon with it been college money is an issue so i think next step will be bigger winch as we have one
