Not very nice about his spelling are they?

I make no apologies for the fact that I find lazy typing and poor grammar to be one of my pet hates. Many of the internet browsers have an integrated spell check, and basic punctuation isn't difficult.

Language, done badly, can be alienating and entirely self defeating. What's the point in trying to communicate if few people can understand?

I'm fully in agreement with you.:thumbup1: This behaviour is not the way to teach those less educated/bothered/talented about their spelling mistakes though. As someone for who English is a second language these things seem to bother me more than most.

There is no excuse for this type of bullying behaviour though.

Going off thread a little, bullying is a word that gets bandied around a lot these days. As someone who went to a rather rough school in the 70s I think that a bit of mickey taking over the net does not compare with the sort of physical and psychological torment that I and many others went through.

(some of the aforementioned others at my hands i'm ashamed to say)

I could understand him with a bit of effort. Shame that some people find it easier to mock than think a little harder. People fall through holes in our educational system every day for various reasons, some of their own making but many through no fault of their own. This whole episode smacks of the same mentality that saw trips to see the inmates of the asylum in Victorian times. I take your point about such communication being difficult but, for somebody in the seller's apparent position, it is necessary for others to make an attempt to understand. Having come into the Arb world later in life than many on here, I have noticed the large number of otherwise very able people involved with tree work who struggle with reading and writing

While I'm sure you are perfect in every way, let's imagine you have some imaginary fault such as dyslexia and want to sell something on Ebay like the seller has here. Would you feel it acceptable to have total strangers who have nothing better to do poke fun at your attempt on a global forum or would you think unkindly of them for their uninvited comments? :001_smile:

I think stumpgrinder's (slightly off-thread) comment was meant to convey his opinion, that this behaviour does not constitute bullying?

Never said I was.

If I wanted to sell something on e-bay and I had a problem reading and writing I would get someone else to do the text for me.

Always assuming that he has somebody to do that for him/realises that he has such a problem/is happy to admit that he has a problem. I know I am glad that my grasp of the language is good enough to make myself understood and have every sympathy with those who are unlucky enough to not be in the same position. I'm also glad we have robust modding on here too, meaning that if such bullying occurs it is quickly dealt with. :001_smile:

As you may of noticed I live in France, moved out here in my early forties,

have tried hard to learn the lingo and while my spoken French passes muster (just!) my written French is as bad as his English. every day with clients, shopkeepers and in the bar I am subject to being corrected, misunderstood (sometimes on purpose) occasionally laughed at and other vaguely humiliating experiences. I get a native to help with complex quotes and advertising copy.

Do I cry myself to sleep at the cruel jibes? no I just get on with it.because thats life.

By your use of the term ' vaguely humiliating'and pointing out that the misunderstanding is 'sometimes on purpose' and ,by inference, both unnecessary and deliberately offensive, you are obviously displeased by the behaviour of the people mocking you and so you answer my question. Out of interest, why is it that your spoken French is adequate but your written is 'bad'? As to being 'thats life,, just because it is commonplace to bully on-line for any reason doesn't make it any more palatable or acceptable to me. :001_smile:
