What's on your bench today?

The thing is guys that I put a lot of machines thru that workshop. In a year on services alone ( not including repairs and PDI) around 500 pedestrian mowers, 150 tractor mowers, 80 hedgecutters, 100 brushcutters, 60 saws. If I am not tidy it just cannot be done.

All tools get put back in their right place after every job, the bench is cleaned and the floor swept. It only takes a couple of minutes between every job, yet saves loads of time looking for tools and parts.:001_smile:

Yeah, "looking for tools", first place I check is my hands, then my pockets and then the bin:001_rolleyes::lol:

I can only aspire to a workshop like that:thumbup:

First place I look is the floor, as normally that chainsaw I just turned round on the bench just sent every tool on it flying all over the floor.

Another good thing about a tidy bench and floor between every job, is that every now and then I find a screw, or washer or the like. I know it can only come from the last job so its easy to put back.

Now in this case if I was working alongside you I would put a random washer or screw on the floor under your bench on a Friday afternoon and sit back and watch the insuring aftermath.

After a few minutes I would tell you and run out the door,:lol::lol:

Mmm, had an MS390 come in totally in bits, rebuilt it but had a black plastic disk left over, tried the parts list.....couldn't find it on the list.

Contacted the owner and he was looking fo the part as well.....came off his Toyota Landcruiser:001_rolleyes::lol:

I can laugh now:lol:

That, Richard, is why I work on my own in my workshop.

Well I always have until the last few weeks. I have been so busy over the last year that I felt I could not carry on at that pace, so now one of my daughters is working part time with me. She has her own tools, her own bench, and she is tidier even than me.:001_smile:

I had this from a saw. I forget what one it was but it was a weird shaped plastic cover. Bit like the chain breaks assembly cover only not. The saw came in bits as he had given it to someone else to sort an oiler issue. I spent ages trying to figure it out. Couldn't for the life of me do it. So had to take the saw back with the extra bit in hand. Turns out it was from another saw the bloke had and he had to buy one as he couldn't find it.:lol::lol:

Your right its not very funny at the time.

I remember you saying on the phone about that. Was wondering how you was getting on with it all. I can't work with anyone else on tools as it destracts me and I lose concentration. :001_tongue:

Know what you mean, but we work well as a family unit. My wife does the admin at a desk in the showroom right next to the workshop. My daughter has inherited my natural aptitude for things mechanical, and we often seem to communicate by some weird telepathy.

As she is part time, I do tend to leave the tricky jobs which require more concentration or swearing until she is off.
