What's on your bench today?

haha, I did see your other post, just I reposted it in here once I had found the thread.

It is one of my saws Steve has worked on in the past and yes it has been a bit finicky. BUT has been running sweet for the 5-6 months.

If the saw has been running fine on the original oil until the exact point that the mix was changed then you have a few choices - Aspen is the one I am sure Gardenkit was trying to get out but held himself back:lol::lol:

You could go back to the original mix and would say try that for a day or two just to see if the saw falls back in to reliable running on the original mix.

If it works fine on the original oil then the saw may need a tweak to get it right on the new oil but it shouldn't mess up the running to that level.

As for four stroke Stihl hedge trimmers - they have a poor rep and most of the problems are down to the valve clearences going out and causing the idle and high speed running to play up. If the red mix is used correctly and the tool is kept tuned correctly then it shouldn't coke up that badly.

Personally........I would stick to the Stihl HP and tell the boss to use two stroke trimmers:thumbup:

Just waiting for the influx of water damaged kit from the flooded Otter Valley garden sheds.

And for the domestic saws that have not been used for years, but wont start and are DESPERATELY needed now because a branch has fallen on the washing line.

And of course, all the customers understand that they are not the only ones with problems and have to take their turn in the queue.

Happy days:001_smile:

Oh well I guess gardenkit has given me a busy day tomorrow. The parts have arrived mate.

Excellent service, keeping up with jonsie there. I'm sure there is a pun in that somewhere...

So it's a 200t to put back together and return to owner. No work done exept found out the bearings and seals had gone, and the carb has had an attempted tune but has been knackerd in the process. (Not by me I must add. Only what I have found out)

A 260 to put the new chain brake band on and away it goes.

And another 200t to put new fuel pipe on, bar and chain, and away it goes after cleaning out the exhaust and a bit of a mod to it to make it sound Beafy.

Then it's hopefully onto my landy for a bit of pre MOT maintanace if the weather holds off. Then it's off to a quad in the afternoon, running problems won't tickover. Needs a tweak and a clean out. Also backfiring when being driven, not when it's slowing down only when at constant speeds.

I had an afternoon catching up with servicing electric things, 3 hedge cutters and 2 mowers. I don't enjoy these, there is not much challenge. Short of sharpening and cleaning there is not much to do, except that I have to carry out a PAT test on each electric machine that I touch, even for a sharpen. Its a case of visual examination of plugs and cables, rectification of any problems, testing on the tester, recording the results and labelling the machine. What a PITA.

Barrie - your workshop is too clean, you must be a crap engineer:lol::001_tongue:

Mine is like a chainsaw factory that has been hit by a Tsunami followed by a tornado.....and that is on a good day!

I must admit my bench is really messed up and it does need a good cleanup. Maybe tomorrow. Seems a deal on a workshop space is in the making. Needs a lot of sorting but hopefully it will be as clean as Barrie's.

I like the look of that lift there Barrie, and I see what you mean now about the space you have. It doesn't look big enough at all. But then I think how ever much space you can have it will never be enough.

Might just get one of the kids or clean mine up, she has OCD, then I can spend a week trying to find my tools.

I'm starting to think a tidy workspace is a good thing. Maybe the volcano needs to explode and force me to clean up.:lol:
