i got a husky 245r strimmer i picked it up from our local dealer scrap bin as they cant fix a thing on the bench and i am not sure what the coil gap should be

A piece of paper folded in half is what I use, or a business card. It's supposed to be .3mm

Or the box the coil comes in when fitting a new one.

Is that like the whole box Rich or just a bit of it:001_tt2:

Sorry bud, gotta laugh, keeps me sane:lol:

The MS441 is back together, new rear handle top, new rim drive, new decomp and all looks fine - will run it up and tach it as it is wearing the new muffler mod.

The Husky 350 now has a throttle that isn't flapping in the breeze - the pivot pin was missing but isn't now.

The carb has been stripped and cleaned and the spark arrestor is clean - just need to pressure/vac check and then tune the carb in correctly and hope all will be fine - the piston looks barely worn as does the rest of the saw!

So that's why the saws never work for me.... I did start to wounder why I am having to weld extra bits on to make from for the gap...:lol::lol::001_tt2:

Got a MS441 in for various faults, top rear handle cover damaged, throttle lock not working, worn rim drive, bolt missing on top AV mount, thread gone and bolt missing from the exhaust, decomp valve bent etc

The owner wants a muffler mod so have done this and got the parts on order.

Also got a very clean Husqvarna 350 in, the idle is up and down and starting an issue when hot.

Will do the usual and am thinking it is just the L screw being a little lean but will see very soon.

nice looking muffler  - is that brazing? never brazed anything - would it to be to thin to mig?

Stuck my contra 090 back together today to run it in tomorrow, as the plug is in a different place, I'll have to run it without a cover

does running it like that eddy affect the cooling in any way? - i

don't know the contra but with some saws the shroud is used to direct the air from the flywheel over the cylinder - don't know if hypotheticaly the gain from no cover equals the loss if you see what I mean? or whether it's relevant in this case or not

In a nutshell, no, the original engine had a cover under the cover, and the 070/090 cover directs it to the air box

Strimmer doesn't seem to be making full power - may just be a small engine though -18cc - carb cleaned, exhaust de carboned, muffler baffles opened - looking down plug hole i noticed this - looks too uneven to be part of the structure - can carbon build here - feels solid -don't want to poke it too much in case it falls inside - is this correct and just a rough casting?

Looks like it is just part of the combustion chamber - I sold my TD18 powered strimmers a year or two ago - nice bits of kit! They usually have a reasonable turn of power - enough for normal garden strimming!

What's the compression like - these engines are generally pretty tough but the coils are not so good as I have had a couple be the culprits of non running machines:thumbdown:
