prices and availability for the x27 seem ridiculous in the uk,i have the x25 or super splitter as it was known before the re branding that Fiskars have undertaken in the last year or so.I thought at first it was too short in the handle length, but you soon adjust and it is the best and only maul i will ever use now.

If its any good tooledup.com are doing the x25 for 50 quid which is a bargain!! link below.

Fiskars X25 Antishock SoftGrip Splitting Axe 722mm Long for Large Logs : Fiskars : Tooled-Up.com

Posted (edited)

I just took delivery of a Fiskars X27 and it is an excellent bit of kit.

I had some Elm which I couldn't split with a felling axe (yes, I know) and the Screwfix maul just bounced off it with hardly making a mark. 4 ton hydraulic splitter wouldn't split it either.

So I ordered the X27 from [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M3BAQE]Amazon[/ame] and it came within a week from the states and cost about £50 delivered, straight to my door, no fannying around paying extra tax or customs fees at the post office.

It cleaved through most of the elm and what it didn't completely split, it did enough damage to finish off with the splitter.

I've a good mind to order a couple of dozen at that price and flog them on at a profit!

appreciate the replies :)

X27 en route from GER at half price what Amazon UK are trying to rip you off with?

Just hoping DHL logistics ship it to my door and not to the local Royal mail customs holding depot like a couple of football shirts I got from the US (NFL) a few yrs ago?

Who is your supplier?

"Kaufplatte24" german retailer on Ebay.

Delivered in 5 working days and I`ve just had a swing and MY GOD!!!

I was not applying any downward force just letting the head drop and it was flying through 8" diameter beech.

Knotted larch 12" disks required a slight downward force but then i was going through and split 2 in one go :laugh1:

I would never have imagined how superior something so simple as a splitting maul could be?

I`d like to see this go up against a Gransfors but I would definately be in the Fiskars X27 corner ;)

Do yourselves a favour would-be splitters and hint at the missus what santa needs to get for crimbo!
