I know how frustrating a problem it can be on a stumpgrinder.You start to think its something technical and seriously complex as I did trying to start a machine after it cut out on a customers driveway(loose wire in this case)and not being able to start my big carlton to get it off the trailer-both situations madly mental and wasting time and money not to mention looking like a loser in front of your customers.In these situations you cannot think logically and in your head its a mega big thing thats gone wrong.

But in my experience it is a very simple solution.I have a mate(clever engineer ) who came over and in less than a couple of minutes sorted it out .You need to find this sort of chap in your local area and make sure you buy him several pints down the pub.

I have a Vermeer SC252 grinder. Should be a great grinder but for a long time when it gets hot it is gutless and locks up and stalls when getting throught the stump. The grinder has to be re started 3 or 4 times per ave stump. REally really frustrating as it should be really powerful and easy. In fact I have a feeling it is gutless even when cold.

 

Any ideas???

what might of happened to your charging system and it did to my 27 hp(on a Laski) last year is that the magnets on the stator have parted company and have distributed themselves everywhere thru out the motor

this makes the motor run funny (until you get all the particles out)and it wont charge anymore

Been reading the feed and getting a few tips.  sorry to jump into the conversation but I had some important questions and didn't know where to post. Whats a low compression number on a SC252 Vtwin Kohler engine? And does the engine mean that it's done/garbage, or can be repaired back to New for another two or more thousand hours. I've heard that an engine replacement is about 4-5 Gs roughly (Hear/say) Is there any way to fix a low compression engine yourself without replacing the whole thing when it's not running the pump efficiently enough to run all the hydraulics and it bugs under load??

I'm new at this, but am mechanically inclined enough to figure things for myself. Most of the time. And don't I just ask like right now.

When the hydraulics don't work I would Start with the pump. Check the belt tension, probably replace the belt, cheap as chips, under an hour. 

If still no power, replace filter and check the control valve (if there on yours) on the left of the levers, close it. 

Unplug the autosweep little wired Black Box under the hood. Still no success? Maybe pump is done. Even the most tired kohler should spin this pump it's about 2-4kw only. 

The kohler is about 2.5grand, easy to replace on your own. Would not hassle with rebuild, if you have a New engine, you get at least another 1000hrs, the record holders have clocked over 4000hrs on Kohlers in their 252s.
