ok, not one of my milled pieces, and after seeing that bench by tommy treecarver, i thought I'd never show my work again:001_smile:

 

Ash butt. 18h x 26w. Bark stayed on thru the drying, and those big splits (and little) are filled with epoxy resin loaded with brass powder. Unfortunately, I'm about as good with a camera as i am a food blender, what looks a dull army green there I promise are lovely streaks of gold. And that ripple in the ash is just beaut.

 

first sprayed coat of lacquer on, I'll put about 4 on and polish it up to a 1200 semi gloss.

Rob, load as much powder into that resin as you can get - it's heavy and sinks. thick paste. fill any tiny pits with powder and superglue. 360 grit brings it up nice, anything more seems to dull it.

Guys, I use east coast marine supplies, south shields.

 

brass powder 240 mesh.

2 part clear epoxy laminating resin

Over that - you want a PU lacquer. If you don't have spraying gear, you can buy it in a tin, I think even halfords sell it.

 

Words of advice though, experiment first!

And definitely experiment with mixing up your epoxy - the measurements have to be bang on, or it will be soft and you'll never rub it down.

 

Before filling (esp endgrain) - blast a couple of coats of lacquer on first before filling, or you'll have a mess. You can buzz the lacquer off when you're rubbing down the brass..
