No it isn't. It is loaded out of alignment, but that is not the same as cross loading.

Don't do it on heavy shock loading, ie butt hitching stem sections. Actually I try to avoid that altogether.

The hitch would keep the tension on and would be the first to take the load then the chocked crab. This would be good apart from the crab where I would have a chocked sling or use s timber or girth hitch.
