Having been able to read through the whole thread, I'm very interested in getting a 717a. However is there still the small problem of the retaining spring spring off if you try to refit it again??

 

I suppose there is always a chance, however I have only had this happen once for myself and I know of only One other time in the UK of this occurring.

The retaining spring that holds the gas pistons snug over the mounting post

is meant to be flexible. I find that using a small flat screw driver works very well and a little practice

very easy to take off and put back on, just do it slowly, covering the spring with your other hand will stop it coming off though never happened when I have used it.
