Our brand new (6 month old) 261 was racing like a mad man today. We used it last week and noticed that the revs kept rising and falling almost to the poinmt of stalling. We have dropped it off at the local dealer as it is still under the 1 year warranty. I think it may be the fuel mix in the carb which may be out but will wait and see.

sounds like u have had nothing but problems with it mate

Yep. It kept stalling when we first used it and a couple of weeks ago the brand new chain it came with snapped without warning. It wasnt too tight or too slack either. I'm glad there is a chain catcher as standard on all saws.

It has been sent to the main Stihl dealer in the UK for them to have a look at as our dealer has spent 24 hours (4 6 hours days) stripping it , replacing parts all to no avail. We have been told it may be the gasket between the carb and block as it only seemed to idle funny when on tickover. As soon as throttle was applied it was sound as a pound.
