Thanks for all the comments and the contact numbers guys. Seems to be big difference depending on who you deal with and where you live.

Do like the figure Highland Forestry is talking. At this price i think it would be very worth while selling every thing for biomass and not get all the hassle with trying to sell builder bags or small van loads direct to the public.

We get 8.00 ton from Stobbarts / Jenkinsons and it all goes to Shotton in North Wales.

Highland Forestry - it's the haulage that kills it in England / Wales. Your plant must be nearby and they must be making a high value product?

The higher amounts paid need to be delivered to them whereas the lower amounts paid means they collect from you.

I had bit of a call around today.

I have just sold willow brash and logs at roadside for £22.50 per ton for biomass.

I also know a local forrester who was loading an arctic today with old brash matts from a clearfell for which he is getting 22.75 a ton! Collected.

Our local plant is about an hour and a half drive away for a lorry

Sounds like it's all open to negotiation then!

Andrew at Balcas did say they have a biomass boiler in Inverness but he said he wasn't sure it's worth picking up from Glasgow.

Biomass prices have a long way to go before it becomes uneconomic to generate electricity. What I cannot understand is why if you have the fuel you dont use it to generate your own electricity. Even a small 250kw generator can use 5000 tonnes of woodchip per annum and generate revenue of £250k. On the continent the obvious route would be a co-operative but that seems alien to the "British" way.
