Blocking down on SRT

How would you use it to choke off against the stem? I'd try and avoid a karabiner due to cross loading issues and i dont fancy pulling my rope through the loop...

 

If I have taken of the rest of the crown I would climb back up to my tip which would either be chocked of with an alpine butterfly or through a crotch and tied of at the base of the stem. If its chocked I lanyard in and simply slide down the butterfly to a suitable position whilst I start to chog down. I don't worry about the length of the tail as I don't have to drag it around the crown. If it's tied of at the base I lanyard in then get the groundie to untie and I re- tie with a butterfly leaving just enough tail to reach the ground +2m.

 

I would not use a krab through the butterfly and into the tail. It saves a couple of minutes pulling the tail through bug I think it would cross load,

Interesting thread. Never thought about this much until now.

 

I suppose the easiest way would be a running bowline which can be re-positioned easily after every cut when chogging down, Not sure about using climbing rope to pull over stems often though:thumbdown:.

 

It would be ideal to switch you climbing line with bull rope for pulling over but do this from gound after decending from climbing line.

 

Actually Srt system does look best for this as you can retrieve from ground easily right?

Here is another pic Steve of me using the rope wrench choked with a running bowline on the way up:001_smile: It is above my lanyard so I can hang off it and rest my feet once in awhile while my groundy moves limbs below.

 

The running bowline is the way Kevin B. works a spar SRT with the RW as well, and he invented the RW, so he must have tried a few other ways first

What about if you climb on a lock/spider jack and you ropeguide isnt big enough?

As you can use them srt style.
