Vandalism to trees, thought I was hallucinating!

A couple of weeks ago went to go and inspect a holm oak as it was declining, halfway through looking at the tree i looked up and saw this on the stem! I really didnt know what was going on and the customer didnt really want to answer my light hearted questions on why its on there!

 

Im pretty knew to the game and this is the strangest thing ive seen on a tree, but im sure you older...experienced? people will have some better simmilar stories/pics id love to see/hear!

haha, I did with my trusty mallet, know response unfortunatly...

 

I was tempted instead of putting a tree tag on, putting a house number plaque on instead
