sharpen silky ?

I am quite confident you can still sharpen the hardened ones.

 

If it got dull in the 1st place cutting wood, dirt or stones, I am sure a file steel can give it a new edge/point.

My Ibuki is the hardened type and it has been sharpened atleast 3 or 4 times.

What i have noticed with the Sugoi is the blade thickness is wider at the points than towards the back or spline so it seems to get a bit more difficult to push and pull thru the cut.

Still works well as good as new. Still beats throwing the 200t around and a dull blades.as

You can sharpen all silky saws, you only have to do the one edge and this can be done with a fine disk on a dremel. I got a dremel just for this and have been sharpening all my employees saws for over a year. You can normally get three sharpens before there no good and no they don't last quiet as long as there not hardened all the way down the tip but i'v got it down to about 3 minuits for a zubat and 5 for an hiyachi. I think I have saved £500 since I started.

I had my first go at sharpening my silky today

i didnt find it easy but im sure with pratice ill get better and faster:biggrin:

I always do mine, after a couple of goes its easy to get all three edges nice and sharp again. I use a feather edge diamond fine off amazon for around £4 and can get one done in around 30 minutes. Some folk think you can't sharpen the hardened ones but you can, after all, it was only wood that made them blunt!

Rub them on a flat water stone and take the outside off. they get thinner as you do them but it's only a bit.

I don't see why 30 minutes once every fortnight or two spent sharpening your silky is so unpopular. 🤔 "just buy a new one" is the common reply to the sharpening question. But that's just like buying a new chain every time it needs sharpening, and most chains are cheaper than a good silky. I'm not suggesting that a new one every 6 months to a year shouldn't be bought, but keeping it sharp has to be better than needing a new one instead of wanting a new one??
