Calling tree surgeons in the Cirencester area

Hi guys,

This is an advance notice really. Next year at the AA show, we plan to replicate the axe throwing event we held at the F.R.Jones show last week.

I can take care of most of the planning for this, however I will always come unstuck at the most crucial aspect of the whole thing.....the targets!!

So basically im wondering if there are any kind souls who would be prepared to do their bit for charity and provide some suitable pieces of wood? The target area is exactly 36" diameter so the rings need to have a useable surface area of at least that, but preferable a little larger.....and a minimum of 8" thick. What we have used in the past with great success has been Oak. This would be preferable as it is tried and tested, but beggars cant be choosers and all that, so anything considered really. We were literally throwing back to back at the F.R.Jones show to the point we couldnt physically have raised anymore money for the charity than what we did. With that in mind, and the fact that the AA show should have approximately twice the attendance, we plan to run 2 targets for the event.

So basically we need 2 targets minimum, preferably an extra 1 as a spare in case 1 splits. The targets would need to be dropped off at the showground Thursday evening ready for painting, and picked up Saturday evening after the show finishes.

I appreciate this is a lot to ask....just finding rings of that size, let alone the logistics of delivering them....but i'm hoping raising this nice and early that 1 or maybe more local companies may be able to chip in and make this event possible.

Please get in touch if you are able to help in any way!

Steve

Did you take any shots of the ring after the comp was finished ?

What condition was it in ?

& the Axe, how did the edges fair ?

.

the ring was fine, its left on site for next year :)

The Axe is ok, it will need a once over on the stone at some point, but that was never a concern....the handle holding up was my main concern, there were some truly cringeworthy throws throughout the 2 days :sneaky2:

What about a few big poles put in the ground for a chopping competition, sort out the men from the boys.

Given that you would need a few but they don't need to be tall, am sure it would be good craic and it would raise a few pound.
