risk assesment - confused.com

Recommended Posts

Done a method statement for medium trees crown lifting job, next to road that is not busy at all. not busy pavement for public either...costumer asks for risk assesment and i tell him i will give him copy of it when i do it on site with staff.

My plan was to put signs, cones, hazard tape out. 2 men on ground in hi-viz to watch incase someone needs to walk past..and use arborcoms for communication. real easy job ( limes )

this is what i get as reply

Hi All

The specific safe working method statement must be specific to each working site and included should be compiled from the risk assessments. Therefore how can he compile the method statement if he has not carried out the site risk assessments? Notwithstanding that both the assessments and safe method of work must include all who could be effected by the work being carried out not only his employees but residents and the public.

He states that he will be dropping branches from height this will need a closure of the pavement and obviously part/whole of the road especially as he said there needs to be no cars below, what about residents and more specially, joe public, who are not aware that work is being carried out.

There are specific heath and safety guidance on the work that he intends to carry out and would suggest he reads and implements same.

No work should commence unless the contractor complies with these requirements.

Have we actually received detail of the work and not just an outline as provided.

what am i missing ?...feel like telling him that i will get road closer, pelican crossing, traffic light brought in for 4 x the original quote.

I had exactly the same red tape recently cutting a hedge in a factory nothing big but the measures they wanted me to take & the lengths they wanted me to go to were plain stupid! The cost of the job would have at least tripled to forfill each & every one of there requirements!!

the method statement can be generic for your working practices, then you compile a site specific risk assessment outlining the tasks you will do on the day thats in your method statement, well thats what i do.

i was sick of this carry on so got CHAS accredited now i mail them a pdf file with millions of stuff in it, never had a problem since-touch wood:biggrin:
