Has anyone noticed.........

Recommended Posts

The ring was slid up or down the lowering rope (ie: closer to or further from the branch) to create a triangle in order to balance the branch.

For smaller branches the lowering rope and sling would be attached closer together along the branch so the ring would be slid down the LR towards the branch.

Longer branches means a wider base on the triangle so the ring would be slid up correspondingly.

confused as to the purpose of the ring....

There is no real purpose, I was experimenting to see if it had any valid applications. Didn't get very far with it but was worth a try, Dont try and read more into it than there is, its not an educational video.

My method does work, but its not achievign anything new, or anything that cant be achieved in other ways. A six wrap prussik left on the lowering line can be used to attach a sling to, to make a balance. My method is similar but you attach it as and when needed.

I have used this idear with the dmm ring doing the job of the butterfly not or a prussick sliding up and down the line. I like it as it's light, quick 2 set and remove and can be stuffed in the pouch on my harness when not needed. I would not recommend it for very heavy balancing as it creates a tight bend in the rigging line. As your rigging line gets bigger so does the ring so you can pass a blight of rope easily through it then clip in a beener with the sling forming the balancing triangle.

Will have a go at setting it up for a pick in morn and post it off phone if I can work out how.
