Had a fun windblown birch to do on Monday. We did most of it with bowsaw but packed the MS341 today to finish up the rest of it. Typical though as just as you go to start the saw a dozen horse come down the track lol. On another note the local mud plugger brigade were caught on one of our sites dicking about and generally trashing it.

You,ve got to get the vans washed. This time of year they don't stay clean for long, the roads are grimey and the lanes are muddy. The only thing that worries me about cleaning the vans is it shows up all the dents and scratches they've picked up over the year. :blushing:

Also the mud soaks up the salt on the roads which eats the chassis. So sat around for a couple of weeks wont so it any favours.

A week of doing gate for stile replacements in a local parish. Got a shed load of timber left over as the person who did the site visit didnt take a tape measure to see if the gates and corrals would fit in the holes. Out of 6 gates only two had corrals. Also did a nice big hazel coppice stool which failed in the recent winds. It had our friend Ganoderma australe at the base having a good chew.

  • 1 month later...

Havent updated this thread for over a month now so time to update it. Spent two days doing rights of way jobs in one parish. Got three stiles replaced by 2 this afternoon. Did two fingerpost jobs on the way back and spent the afternoon checking the saws over and changing bars as required. We thought one of our MS341's had dry seized but it was only because some one had turned it off from flat out so had no oil in the bore.

Got this big boy to contend with soon. Thankfully i know a local farm hand who works on the land to the right of the fallen tree who is helping us out with his dads JCB Fastrac and a gurt PTO/Hydraulic winch to pull the rest of the tree into his field for either planking or logs. She's a right beast and still hung up

I jog as well and often get in the woods on PROW's near me.This particular woodland is falling apart and regularly after winds has a new tree or branch down. On the fallen stuff without exception there is always a failure point, some from pretty high up which would take a good survey to spot especially in a woodland.Goes to show it takes a big wind to knock healthy stuff down.

There are alot of woods near me that have had alot of trees go over due to the ground being so wet. There is a pine/fir wood which was thinned last winter and there is about 150 trees on the floor and about another 50 hung up or loosened from the last bout of winds. The keeper won't let us go in there due to the risk factor as some of the hung up trees are falling over on still days.
