Recently bought a second hand nissan terrano which i've mostly been very pleased with. Whilst wheel-spinning on a muddy woodland track today I found that despite being in 4wd low box, only the back wheels were spinning:sad:. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Looks like i'll have trouble extracting anything (and this is july!) until I get it sorted. Thanks, Rob S

is it auto hub. if so take apart and regrease, if this doesnt work it may be the engaging ring(or something) check if the front wheel drive shaft spinns when in 4x4 if they do then its the hubs you can get manual hubs on cheesebay. hope this helps

Thanks for your replies, it has auto free-running hubs and two gear levers. I've got an owners manual which isnt that enlightening and havent yet been able to find a print workshop manual. Just hoping its something simple to fix!

the same thing happened with mine, inside the hub there is a ring which engages the 4x4 have a look at the exploding diag. the hub is easy to take appart and check it. it was £65 for a new ring. the manual hubs are about £180 for the pair. or find a scrap one and get the hub off.
