I know nowt about forestry equipment but want to get a harvester head that I can stick on an 8 tonne machine. Can you forestry geeks tell me the heads which have been on the market since about 1995 onwards which will do the job and not be too heavy. People obviously put them on roof mounts now so I sure there must be a few for an 8 tonner.

john deere ponsse and valmet are all good heads, and have several sizes, they all go on different kinds of base.. Ponsse is at Lockerbie, valmet is at Longtown near Carlisle, john deere is at carlisle. Pick their brains, they all plenty of second hand heads. Nokka also do a small thinnings head

smaller Keto 51 (37cm dia cut, 460Kg weight) is probably best a 100 (45cm dia cut, but 700kg head)may be a bit much,

There was a 51 in the classified in the back FJ last month suitable for roof mount with its own oil cooler etc. may be worth a call

Keto 51

Keto Frost or Victor

The 51 would be my choice but the others are basically newer models of the same thing.

As for other options i think the Ponsse heads even the small ones are all nearly a tonne so bit big for an 8 tonner be ok on a 13. Valmets 330 head again would be at the heavy end around 750-900kg.
