Hamadryads diary- a new chapter

Recommended Posts

Did you sound the trunk/butresses Tony?

Bet it would make a very interesting reading for decay detection.

Also bet that's now on your diary for a re-visit later this year

.

I rarely bother to tap/hama decays these days, usualy just a formality.

and yes, this one will certainly be a regular stomp for me from end of august:thumbup1: I cant wait to catch this at full tilt.

Was working on one of my fave sites today and finished by two so had a bit of time to play.

I felled this large poplar two years back, maybe three, it had rigidiporus all round the base but it wasnt my spec or decision to fell. What was interesting was the formation of a sterile lump (panic fruiting of a biotrophic fungi) on the cut surface of the stump which has only just begun to show signs of degradation. I saw a slime mold on its surface which was pretty cool!

just down the road, a poplar that youll have seen me post before when these fruits where fresh and panicking all over the stem. This has also formed now a magenta coloured sterile lump where the origional brackets where and are now inside this large sterile fruit. (also Rigidiporus ulmarius)
