yea its a gnomeoderma of some kind but i cant quite put my finger on it

not quite but very close, you got the floss bit right.

I cant take it anymore i have to tell you now it the silk floss tree (Ceiba speciosa)

 

Done well to survive last winter - it says here Chorisia Speciosa Floss Silk Tree that they are only tolerant of -7 degrees.

I saw it in Milazzo in Sicily so i dont think it needs to worry so much about any minus temperatures.

Bloody awfully things to climb, and the wood feels like your cutting a cucumber. The absolute devils own tree is a sand box. Looks similar to a ceiba (spiney cedar) but with high pressure sap. It squirt out when you knock the spikes off and it will blind you if it gets in your eyes. Add on top of that they're full of fire ants

Fire ants i can relate too though i have had many a nasty experience with them and you keep getting bitten all the day and even when you get home you still find them crawling about your clothes!

Here is one that I plan to sell as a print.

 

BTW - just sold my first 3 prints (20 inch x 30 inch) a couple of weeks ago. Took samples to show someone for a future motel addition, and some customers in the lobby who saw the prints said they wanted to buy those.
