Thanks Arbwork, A coordinated effort and follow up is really the key. Les cork's suggestion of the creation of a national data base is very clever and long over due. Although my time spent on this project has been interesting from a research standpoint, I

have not completed my ultimate goal of implementing a plan like Les Cork had suggested. If you or anyone else would be willing to assist myself as a liaison that would be great. I believe the membership of ArbTalk can and should make a difference. Thanks for your reply and support.

An alternative way of delaying thieves and increasing the chance of the theft being discovered is to lock down the high value kit (saws etc) using a cable lock alarm. To remove the kit, you'd have to either release the wire using a key, or cut the wire. If the wire is cut, the alarm sounds an ear-piercing alarm.

I ordered two of these on monday after worries that my saws were at risk from being pinched out of my storage unit. :thumbup1:

A controversial view but my technique is great tool insurance from the NFU. The premium I have paid is far less than you pay financially and emotionally trying to protect kit. I never get emotionally attached to kit and had 8 saws stolen in the last 2 years and I couldn't care less.

Your insurance will only be as good as the number of claims you have against your policy.

Sooner rather than later your policy will become so expensive you will either not be able to afford it or your policy will not be reissued with any carrier. I do not believe it to be an emotional issue when it comes to protecting ones kit rather a matter of my property being stolen, it my property, not the theifs. Read the thread, it may and more than likely save your kit from the theifs in the first place!
