Means and Methods of Protecting Your Kit from Theft

Your insurance will only be as good as the number of claims you have against your policy.

Sooner rather than later your policy will become so expensive you will either not be able to afford it or your policy will not be reissued with any carrier. I do not believe it to be an emotional issue when it comes to protecting ones kit rather a matter of my property being stolen, it my property, not the theifs. Read the thread, it may and more than likely save your kit from the theifs in the first place!

Yeah I know your right, Im just bitter and twisted after trying everything and having so much stuff stolen. Ive had a trackers on chippers, cameras on containers, expensive locks etc. Thieves in Manchester and Liverpool have hand held devices to detect where a tracker is on a machine, they either demobilize it or just throw it away before they take machinery. I know the cable alarm is a good deterrent and everything helps but its easy to set up a circuit not going through the handles of the saws and cut the cable that is.

Chatting to a local tree guy about kit getting nicked, he told me that a few yrs ago a tree climber was feeding brash into a chipper in London when he realized it was moving forward:confused1: so he climbed onto the chipper and over the draw bar and over the truck, Indiana Jones style as it drove down the road, hammer in hand attacking the thief from above - got him.

Has anybody else heard the story and has a bit more detail to add:thumbup1:

Good Post and helpful info. The cable alarms work well but there is a possible weak point I will not post in public. Should be able to do as in the USA and Australia to thieves. These mobile charge up angle grinders don't help with security issues.

Chainsaw producers should be forced to take the first steps with secure marking on all new saws. (I NEVER purchase used saws and scrap old ones for spares)
