Alycidon - you go for it mate if it's what you want to do.

I stand by my comments though - decent firewood sellers don't need it, and rubbish firewood sellers won't have itt. I'd also guess that the majority of firewood customers are going to pay little attention to it. The only people who think it would be really great if you joined up are HETAS....

Around us we have two main firewood sellers - one doing top end dry mixed hardwood at £70 (.65 cubic m) and the other knocking out arb waste as fast as it falls predominantly wet leylandii but all cut to length and split at £35 a .65 bag.

Once customers understand the difference between products on offer they can make their own choice so everyone is happy and it works really well. Both vendors usually sell out shortly after Christmas so summer orders have become much stronger over the last two years.

Not selling enough to make it viable, its also not a well enough known standard but at least these people are trying up set a quality standard.

I understand your thinking and i myself are HETAS Registered but only because it saves me money. HETAS do nothing to help you and are generally pretty useless other than taking money. It's just a legality.

I'd never bother with the scheme for firewood as you, like me, sell stoves. These customers have probably never bought firewood before. Therefore if they want some (which they will as they've just spent 3k getting a stove) and if your prices are pretty average then they'll buy it from you. That's what i'm finding. I'm selling a load of wood with every stove i'm installing at the mo. If your wood is good they'll keep coming back. No scheme needed and happy customers.

I have this image of fat old farts sitting in oak clad offices drinking the finest whiskey laughing at idiots like me across the road working in the rain. Much like corgi or niceace or what ever they called. They wont be taking £750 of me in 13 months.

If you ask the man on the street what Corgi ( now gassafe) stands for with regard to gas appliances probably a third will know, another third may come accross it when they do reserch about a proposed gas purchase on line.

Hetas ( and Oftech for Oil) is far less well known, it is the solid fuel equiv to Corgi. It seems though to have few teeth to discipline members. My installer who has been Hetas for many years believes it to be a good thing and the reassurance gets him more work hence I am enrolling the showroom.
