Bay tree 90% dead 10% alive help please!

Recommended Posts

Ok guys any help will be great please as I am puzzled on this one.

The tree was alive last year and since winter it has not come back, there is fresh growth in 3 places of the tree and some epicomic growth at the base of the tree that is in full leaf. My question is will the tree die off, or will it come back? They don't want a full removal so I suggested a pollard, what do you guys and girls think please?

Coppice and see what happens. The bits that are dead are dead. Sounds like the roots are ok. There are hundreds of dead ones around here, Oxfordshire, along with eucalyptus, cordyline and pittosporum. Some that will struggle through though. Another hard winter might see a few more off.
