Pollution Control Plan

1. Ensure safety

 No smoking, switch off machines

 Do not go near unstable machinery

 Move people upwind of spillage

2. Deal with any injuries

 Check people involved for injury or reaction, treat them as a priority

 Move any injured upwind of spill only if it is safe to do so

 If someone has had a reaction, take product details with them to A & E

 If necessary, call emergency services on 999 or 112

3. Contain spill

 If it is safe to do so, stop the source of the spillage

 Turn off taps and put drums to catch leaks under source if possible

 Try to keep the spillage in as small an area as possible by building dams etc.

 Block drains etc with brash, soil or straw

4. If the spillage has reached water

 Try to divert the flow of water onto the forest floor

 Find quiet slow moving water downstream and set up booms

 Put cushions and pad behind booms (upstream)

 Find a second stretch of quiet water down stream and repeat procedure

5. Clean up

 Mop up using absorbent pads

 Put all contaminated material in plastic bags and store in site safe until they can be disposed of properly
